The three clocks on an Iowa salesperson application

Background check, exam pass, and the live course hours, and when each one expires.

Iowa's salesperson path is 96 hours: a 60-hour principles course, which may be online, and three 12-hour courses that the state requires live. The fees a person can add without calling a school are the ones published beside those steps: $51 for the fingerprint background check, $95 for a PSI exam attempt, and $125 to apply. Iowa REALTORS lists the 60-hour course at $425 online, $460 on a weekday, and $485 on a weekend. Adding the online course to the three fixed fees is $696. That is arithmetic, not a quote, and it leaves out errors-and-omissions insurance, which neither the state page nor the association prices.

Three clocks run at once. The background-check result is good for 210 calendar days. An exam pass lasts until the last working day of the sixth month after the exam. The 36 live hours have to fall in the 12 months before the commission receives the application. Starting the background check the day you feel motivated, and then waiting, is how the $51 gets paid twice.

howtogetmyrealestatelicense.com shows this same Iowa sequence. The canonical pages are on realestatelicenseiowa.com. A national reading of that other domain would be wrong: the hours and the fees are Iowa's.
